Saturday 4/10/10 - Tater Tot Casserole

Since it was taking longer than planned for my stew to cook, I thought I'd better come up with some other ideas for dinner.  That was the reason I decided to have it the next day for dinner.  As I was going through recipes, I have set a side to try, I stumbled across this one and thought it sounded good.  It was also very easy to make and I had all the ingredients that it called for.   I decided to post this one too, in hopes that some of you would find it interesting enough to try sometime.  The name alone had me.  :D

The line up for this recipe is:

*1 (32 oz) package of frozen tater tots
*1 (16 oz) container sour cream
*1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
*1 (10-3/4 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
*1 (6 oz) can French Fried onions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.

Arrange tater tots in the prepared baking dish.

In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream

Shredded cheddar cheese

And Mushroom Soup

Mix ingredients well

Pour mixture over the tater tots. (I think I would've mixed this in with the tots instead of just on top, but I was trying to follow the instructions).

Mixture poured over the tater tots

Next, sprinkle French Fried onions over the top of the casserole.  I used more than what was called for. My family LOVES these!

Bake for 45-60 minutes.  I set my timer for 45 minutes to check the casserole at that point.  I ended up keeping them in for the whole 60 minutes.  One thing I want to mention is, I would maybe add the onions later on, instead of at the begining.  Maybe the last 15-20 minutes.  Mine were getting pretty dark.

YUM!  This was very good!  I thought my kids would've liked this, but I was wrong.  If it's not in the shape of a french fry or mashed potatoes, they won't touch it. Everyone else liked it.  It was something easy and different.

Try some tonight and see what you think!
