Friday 5/14/10 - When it rains, it pours!
When I got Brianna up this a.m. I asked her how she felt. She told me her throat hurt really bad. I told her that she was sick and wasn't going to school today. I couldn't get her to eat or drink anything so I told her we had to go visit our "friend" Dr. Skoultch (her pediatrician). I tell her he's our "friend" so she doesn't get scared to go to the doctor. I told her he helps keep us healthy and helps us feel better when we're not feeling our best. It seems to be working so far. Well, the doctor confirmed that what Brianna had was strep throat. I have no clue how this child got strep. Good grief! This poor little girl has been so sick this year since starting school last August. I'm hoping next school year will be much better for her! I picked up her prescription, Augmentin, at the pharmacy to start giving it to her a.s.a.p. The doctor said it was a good thing I brought her in when I did. By tomorrow it would've been much worse. I've learned strep throat can get outta hand REAL fast. He showed me her throat. WOW. It was really red and swollen with spots all on her tonsils. Poor thing! Of course this would have to happen ONE day BEFORE her birthday. What a bummer! This may mean we'll have to postpone going to Chuck E. Cheese until next weekend. I was told that after 24 hours of taking an antibiotic, she wouldn't be contagious any longer. I don't know if I want to risk it. My mom asked the doctor if Jacob could get it from his sister. He said that it's very rare for children under 2 to get strep throat. Yeah, he also told me it was rare for anyone to have an allergic reaction to Zithromax too. Brianna's EXTREMELY allergic to that. Go figure! I'll keep you posted. If you would please keep Brianna in your thoughts and prayers, I would appreciate it! Thanks!
