I wanted to give an update from Brianna's doctor's appointment from yesterday. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong with her. He REALLY checked her over good. He said the rinse of Maalox & Benedryl really helped her out. Her mouth is totally healed up! I'm happy to report she's able to eat again! Trust me, the kid is making up for lost time! I think she'd eat the kitchen sink, if I'd let her...lol. She still hasn't gained any weight though. She's STILL under 40 lbs. The doctor checked out her ears, nose, throat, mouth, eyes, listened to her heart and lungs, looked at her hands, feet arms, legs...I'm telling ya, he was VERY thorough. He said that she didn't have an infection and told us to stop the Amoxicillin. He said he doesn't like to give kids medicine when they don't need it. Doing so could possibly create more problems, like an urinary tract infection or diarrhea. Considering what we've been going thru this winter, not to mention these past two weeks, I took the doctor's advice IMMEDIATELY and threw out her medicine! That's the last thing we need is to cause more problems for this sweet little girl. I think she's been through enough! I asked him about her temperature and why was it over 99? He told me the only explanation he had for it was this: Some people's core temperature is higher than others. A "normal" body temperature can range anywhere from 97.6 to 99.6. It will vary throughout the day depending on a person's level of activity. He said anything below a 100 degrees is not really considered a temperature for some people. Most doctor's don't get too concerned until it gets to at least 100 or higher, depending upon the symptoms. I told him we have not given her any medicine for a few days. We've been told to treat the symptoms, not the numbers. The doctor said she is acting totally normal and wasn't able to find a thing wrong with her. He told me to put the thermometer down and step away slowly! Haha! I did bring it with us today to see how accurate it was against theirs in the office. Brianna's temperature under the arm was 98.7 (when the nurse took it). Then I scanned her forehead with ours. It read 98.9. That's pretty darn accurate to me considering it's different methods. He told me unless she's acting sick, put away the thermometer for now. He said he saw no reason why she couldn't go back to school Monday! He gave us a doctor's note telling the school she's NOT contagious anymore and she can return to school! Brianna and I did a happy dance right there in the exam room! It was music to my ears hearing the doctor say she was HEALTHY and NOT contagious anymore! YAY!! The best part of it was, he said that she did it all on her own! Her body fought off the HSV-1 virus by itself!! Isn't that awesome! So, for now, we all seem to be healthy for the moment. I'm not holding my breath, but crossing my fingers that it stays that way! School is out in roughly a month and a half. If we can hold on til then, we'll be doing good!! :D Stay healthy ya'll! We hope to!!
**Uh oh...Jack just came to me telling me that he hoped he wasn't getting sick. I asked him what was wrong? He said his throat felt funny and his nose was running. I told him I wasn't giving him permission to get sick. Both kids are FINALLY healthy again and he's not allowed to ruin it. :D He said, "Sorry, but I don't think I have a choice." I think this new job he's taken on is wearing him down. He used to work there years ago and quit for several reasons. Well, unfortunately all these years later, all those things still exist, nothing has changed, along with a bunch of new issues. It's stressing him out BIG time and wearing him out. Let's face it folks, none of us are getting any younger here. Things we could tolerate before, aren't so tolerable now. Is it due to our "advancing" age or just not being able to tolerate other people's stupidity anymore? Who knows. I guess I shouldn't put my doctor's hat away just yet. I may have another patient on the horizon. Ugh. So much for staying healthy! BOO!!
