Tuesday 3/29/11 - The virus that won't leave
I'm happy to report that Brianna is about 90% back to normal. If only her low grade temperature would go away. Her pediatrician had warned me to keep an eye out for any secondary infections. He said a good clue that she'd have one is that her fever would leave, then come back. Well, her temperature has been hovering between 98.3 & 99.4, with an exception of today around lunch time. It actually climbed to 100.2. I decided to call the doctor to tell him about it to see what he thought. I thought for sure I'd have to bring her back in to see him. Normally he won't prescribe any medicine without seeing a child. I told him what had been going on and that all of her symptoms were almost gone except for a low grade fever. He said that most likely, she had gotten a secondary infection in her mouth, which was why her fever was still lingering. He said it should've been gone by now. He prescribed an antibiotic for her to take for 7 days. He told me not to let her go out anywhere until she had 3 full days of medicine in her. So, that meant no school for the rest of the week. By the time this is all said and done, this poor kid will have missed TWO FULL WEEKS of school. This is why I get so freaked out every time she gets sick. Her body never seems like it can fully fight off whatever virus, cold, etc, she gets. It turns into an ear infection, sinus infection, strept throat or whatever infection that requires an antibiotic to totally get rid of. I don't know if this has anything to do with her being born 5 weeks early and her immune system not being up to par or what. None the less, it's still frustrating. If I could keep her in a bubble to protect her, I would. I'd keep her away from all people and germs! I know that won't help the situation, but it sure would make me feel better! I think this is why I'm so over protective of her. It drives me crazy to think, this fall, she'll be going to a new school, with new kids that have different germs she hasn't been exposed to yet. It doesn't seem like her immune system is building up very much. Maybe it's just me. Yes, I am one of those over protective mothers when it comes to my kids. I would take a bullet for them any day to keep them out of harms way. I think any parent would do that for their kids. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed & saying A LOT of prayers that she'll be well to go to school on monday! I'll keep ya posted...stay tuned!
