7/10/11 - Baby Sister/Toy Room

You would never know it by looking at all of this, but I actually got rid of THREE contractor's trash bags FULL of the kids' toys that they don't play with anymore!  It took me two weeks to get the toys under control, but I finally did it.  Boy, was THAT a chore!  We had to make room in Jacob's old room for the crib and a few other pieces of furniture for baby sister.   She will have to share a room with her older sibling's toys because there isn't any other place to keep them right now.  Brianna & Jacob's room is pretty cramped with two beds and other pieces of furniture.  It's do-able right now and they don't seem to mind.  Brianna asked me why she had to share a room with her brother and not her baby sister.  I explained to her that Jacob sleeps through the night most of the time and her baby sister wouldn't for a while.  I told her that a tiny baby has to get up several times during the night to eat and for diaper changes.  That would interupt her sleep.  She asked me how long she was going to have to share a room with him.  I told her atleast 2 or 3 years until baby sister was old enough like Jacob is now.  I asked her why she was asking?  She said, "Because Jacob is a pig & he smells.  Boys are pigs and I don't like sharing MY room with him."  I told her it wasn't HER room anymore it was OUR room and she didn't really have a choice in the matter.  I told her she could always take one of her play tents outside and sleep out there for the next 2-3 years and let Jacob have HER room...lol.  She quickly changed her mind and decided it wasn't so bad to share a room with her brother.  =)

This is all of their toys.  We have a new rule here at home.  Each night, before going to bed, all of their toys HAVE to be picked up and put back in their place.  Otherwise, in the morning when they wake up, whatever they don't pick up the night before, it WILL be gone.  Meaning that it would be thrown away.  I told them that little kids who appreciate their toys clean them up.  By them not cleaning up their mess, it was telling their dad and I that they didn't appreciate them and they didn't care if their toys got pitched or not.   This is going to be a strict rule around here.  There's going to be one more person living here which = MORE STUFF.  Besides, I really don't want to trip over toys in the middle of the night when I have to get up to feed or change baby sister.  SERIOUSLY.  So far, both kids have been really good at picking up their toys.  After all, it's only been in effect for one weekend, but ya have to look on the bright side of things.  Baby steps, people, baby steps!  It's a start...

This is Brianna's bed changed back into a crib for baby sister.  I also put their book shelf back together and assembled all the books and games back on there.  We'll see how long it takes before it gets messed up again...lol.  I've explained to them that I don't care what they take to play with off of it, but it WILL be put back.  I'm telling you, I've worked too hard on this room for it to be destroyed in a matter of minutes by two tornados!

I had Jack bring Brianna's changing table back up from the basement to use as well.  Now...if only I could remember what I did with that cover that went on the foam padding...hmmm.

I have all of baby sister's clothes washed and put away in her dresser and the rest hung up in the closet as well.  I am trying to be all ready for her arrival & have everything organized and in it's place.  I can't promise how long it will stay that way, but it can start out like that.  I'm sure for the first several weeks/months, until we get into a routine, it's going to be REALLY hectic!  Atleast we're 95% finished with the baby room!  And incase you're wondering if we're going to paint this room a girl color.  The answer is NO WAY!  I don't think she'll care what color her room will be.  If Jacob doesn't care if his room is pink, yellow & purple, I doubt if baby sister cares if hers will be blue.  =)
